On January 12, 2002, a group of policemen arrested Ms. Yu Huizhen and Ms. Wang Jinlan from their homes in Yanqing County, Beijing. They were both detained in Yanqing County Detention Center. Ms. Yu was released after she went on a hunger strike for three days. Ms. Wang was brutally tortured and force-fed when she went on a hunger strike. She was released 20 days later. On November 5, 2002, policemen from the Kangzhuan Police Station kidnapped Ms. Yu and Ms. Wang again. In the afternoon a court officer came to have them sign a verdict illegally sentencing them to two years in a labor camp. Since both of them refused to sign, the court officer forged their names. They were both sent to the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Daxing County the next morning. The physical examination at the labor camp hospital found that Ms. Yu had a soaring high blood pressure of over 200. The labor camp did not accept her, so the police took her back to the Yanqing County Detention Center. She went on a hunger strike and was sent to a local hospital to be force-fed. To stop her from talking, the head guard and an inmate crammed a sanitary pad in her mouth and taped it shut. They even pinched her nose to keep her from breathing. Under this kind of persecution, Ms. Yu's health deteriorated rapidly. She was released 14 days after her arrest.

On January 12, 2002, Mr. Jiang Hai was kidnapped from his home at Yanqing County, Beijing. He was sent to the Yanqing County Detention Center. After hunger striking and being force-fed for 28 days, he was released. On April 28, 2002, Mr. Jiang was kidnapped again from his home. His wife went to the police station several times but could not get information about his whereabouts; instead, she was beaten by the Director of the Kangzhuan Police Station and driven away. After Mr. Jiang went on a hunger strike for five months, on September 27, 2002, without his family being notified, the Yanqing County People's Court conducted an illegal trial and sentenced Mr. Jiang to nine years in prison. He appealed to the Yanqing County People's Procuratorate, but was denied. On December 16, 2002, Mr. Jiang was imprisoned at Qianjin Prison in Tianjin City. Later, he was sent back to the Yanqing County Detention Center because he went on a hunger strike. His current whereabouts are unknown.
