Mr. Zang Yinyun, male, in 30s, is from Lishu County, Jilin Province. At the end of 2000, Mr. Zang went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. He was arrested and detained at Lishu County’s forced labor camp until June 2001. In January 2002, he was again arrested and detained in the Lishu County Detention Center where he was brutally beaten. Several months later, Mr. Zang was sentenced to three years of forced labor and transferred to the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp in Changchun City. In August 2002, the local police removed him from the labor camp and took him into their own custody in order to torture him themselves. Mr. Zang is now back in detention at the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp. In early 2002, his wife, who was pregnant at the time, was the only one left to take care of their elderly parents and young child.
Mr. Zang’s family members were also persecuted for practicing Falun Gong. In 2001, Mr. Zang’s brother and sister-in-law were detained for one year for going to Beijing to appeal for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong. While they were detained their farm was pilfered, and their home was frequently ransacked. In September 2002, the Chief policemen of the Liaohe Police Sub-Bureau and the Santa Police Station at Lishu County detained Mr. Zang’s brother for three days and charged him 2,000 Yuan for refusing to slander the founder of Falun Gong. Mr. Zang’s younger sister, an elementary school teacher, was fired and sent to a forced labor camp for going to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Later, under pressure from the local police, her husband was forced to divorce her, and she was subsequently forced to leave her home and her young child, and become homeless in order to avoid further persecution.
