Print  E-mail

Ms. Wang Xiuxia, female, 42 years old, from Qingyuan County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. On May 29, 2003, at approximately 10:00 a.m., more than 20 officers from Xintun Police Station and Wanxin Police Station broken into a Falun Gong materials production site and arrested Ms. Wang Xiuxia because of her help in producing Falun Gong materials. Ms. Wang was taken to the Fushun City Police Department and policemen beat her until she could not stand. The police continued to torture Ms. Wang until approximately 2:00 a.m. On May 30, 2003, Wang was transferred to the Fushun City Secondary Detention Center.

Ms. Wang Xiuxia began a hunger strike to protect the arrest as soon as she arrived at the detention center. She was shackled, handcuffed and force-fed by the guards. Ms. Wang was handcuffed to a chair and put in solitary confinement for a twenty-four hour time period. Her hands and feet were tightly bound, and she was unable to move for the whole time period.

On the evening of June 15, Fushun City Police Department authorities delivered a death notification to Wang Xiuxia's family. When her family went to the police department, they saw that Ms. Wang’s body was being kept in a freezer and showed obvious signs that it had been tortured. The detention center officials prohibited Ms. Wang’s family from having close contact with the body and would not answer any questions regarding the cause of death. On the morning of June 17 Ms. Wang’s body was disposed of by the detention center without allowing an autopsy to be conducted.
