This book is a compilation of excerpts from the annual reports
of the United Nations Human Rights Commission’s Special Rapporteurs, documenting
cases of human rights violations committed by the Chinese government against
Falun Gong practitioners. A brief introduction is given here to provide
significant background information.
The People’s Republic of China is a member of the UN Human
Rights Commission and a permanent member of the UN Security Council with veto
power. However, it is still subject to investigation by the Special Rapporteurs.
After a case is submitted to the United Nations, an inquiry is made to the
Chinese government asking about the circumstances. Once the government replies,
the UN issues a report to the complainant.
This book is a compilation of cases submitted in specific areas
of abuse, such as Arbitrary Detention, Torture, Arbitrary Execution, Violence
against Women, or Freedom of Religion or Belief, including specific findings.
Many of the names mentioned can be associated with the personal stories reported
in the 2002 and 2003 Falun Gong Reports. In reading about these violations, we
are reminded that these are people just like our friends and relatives. They
just happen to live in a totalitarian state and want to decide for themselves
what to believe rather than have the state decide it for them.
