Victim:

            Ms. Yu Guiping, female, was born on December 26, 1946. She is a Falun Gong practitioner from Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. She was slim, about 1.7 meters (5 ft. 7 in.) in height, and wore corrective glasses for myopia. She worked at the Research Institute of Educational Sciences, located in Gansu Province.

Brief Description:

Before Ms. Yu Guiping practiced Falun Gong, she had stomach surgery and was in poor health. She stayed in bed throughout the year, and suffered tremendously. According to her own description, she  did not even have the strength to lift a teakettle. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1998 and her health quickly returned. She was then able to take care of herself and help with housework. Her family environment returned to one of happiness and warmth. On January 25, 2000, after the persecution of Falun Gong began, Ms. Yu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She has not return home since then, and her family did not get any information of where she was and she has been missing ever since.

Steps taken to find Ms. Yu Guiping:

Mr. Hu Yaohua, Ms. Yu's husband, is a professor in the Department of Educational Research on Business and Management, at the Communist Party School of Gansu Province.

Five years have passed, but no one has any information about Ms. Yu. Her family has tried to find her in all of the Beijing police stations, prisons and detention centers, but the authorities have not provided any information of her.
