Ms. Jin Shulian, female, was born in 1961, and was employed by the 104^th Team, First Mine, Oil Collecting Eighth Plant, Daqing Oil Field. Before practicing Falun Gong, she had kidney failure, a slipped disc, and other problems, and was unable to take care of herself. After she began to practice Falun Gong in 1996, all her illnesses disappeared, and both her mental and physical health returned.

Since 1999, when the Chinese Government started persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, her employer, the Eighth Oil Collecting Plant, and the Gaoping Police Substation constantly forcing her to write Guarantee Statements[1]  and make her give up her Falun Gong practice. They sent people to follow her, and call her to harass her.

In September 2001, Ms. Jin was caught distributing materials that clarified the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. Security personnel from the Eighth Oil Collecting Plant arrested her, and sent her to the Gaoping Police Substation. She was transferred to the Daqing City Detention Center, and was detained for fifteen days. During her detention, authorities at the Gaoping Substation tried to have the Datong Police sentence her to three years at a labor camp. When they sent her to the Harbin City Drug Rehabilitation Center, where she was to serve her sentence, she failed the physical, so the police had to release her.

During the 2002 Spring Festival, Ms. Jin was arrested again when distributing truth-clarifying materials. Using her ingenuity, she even posted a truth-clarifying sticker inside the Gaoping Police Substation. She was released that same night. The Gaoping Police Substation Director, Mr. Sun Baowen, policeman Li Yunsheng, and policewoman Wang Shuhua from the Datong Station arrested Ms. Jin again on April 16, 2002, at her home. She was sent to the Gaoping Police Substation, and then was transferred to the Daqing City Detention Center.

 Ms. Jin went on a hunger strike for thirty-eight days to protest the illegal detention. While in detention, the police beat and cursed her. She was severely tortured both mentally and physically. She was then transferred to the Sa-er-tu Detention Center, but was rejected because she was very weak. She was nothing but skin and bones, and was on the verge of death. Because of the fear that she would die while in detention, she was sent home in early August. She died on August 13, 2002.
