Print  E-mail

Eight practitioners were tortured to death at the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp in Changchun City, Jilin Province.

Mr. Xu Xijun, male, 29, was a resident of Qiuligou, Dunhua City, Jilin Province. He worked in Changchun City. In October 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. After he returned, officials at the Hongqijie Police Station in Changchun City sentenced him to three years of forced labor. He was detained at the Fenjin Labor Camp and the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp in Changchun City successively. During his detention, because he refused to give up Falun Gong, he was subjected to both mental and physical torture. As a result, he could not eat, and an x-ray examination showed there was a shadow on his lungs. Not wanting to take responsibility for his death in the labor camp, the camp released him on medical parole in October 2001. While he was at home, the labor camp kept harassing him, so that he could not recover. His health kept deteriorating, and Mr. Xu passed away in May 2002.

Mr. Song Changguang, male, was a resident of Changchun City, Jilin Province. He was detained in the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp because he practiced Falun Gong. He suffered all kinds of torture in the No. 3 Division of the labor camp, leaving him with severe health problems. He passed away about half a month after he was released.

Mr. Ding Yunde, male, 55, was a resident of Baishan City, Jilin Province. He was employed at the engineering section of the Tonghua City Bureau of Ore and Minerals. Local police sentenced him to two-and-a-half years of forced labor because he appealed to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. On December 24, 2001, he was transferred to the No. 4 Division in the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp from a labor camp in Baishan City. Upon arrival, inmates were ordered to beat him. On April 6, 2002, the Changchun City authorities ordered the camp to reform 95% of all practitioners. To fulfill this quota, countless practitioners were tortured and persecuted relentlessly as long as they refused to give up Falun Gong. Mr. Ding was transferred to the No. 3 Division in 2002. There he was also beaten because he refused to give up his belief. After the beatings, he was forced to sit in a very painful position on a small stool for a long time. His body was covered with large black and blue bruises. In December 2002, he could no longer eat, and was on the verge of death. He was released on bail before his release date, and passed away two days after being returned home.

Mr. Wang Ji, male, 29, a graduate of a junior college, worked in Changchun City. Because he practiced Falun Gong, he was sentenced to three years of forced labor at the No. 4 division of the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp, where he was brutally tortured. He died at home shortly after his release in January 2002.

Mr. Zheng Yongping, male, was a resident of Shiren Town, Baishan City, Jilin Province. He worked at the laboratory of the Shiren Town Chemical Plant. He was sentenced to two years of forced labor at the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp because he practiced Falun Gong. He was tortured in the labor camp, and died at home shortly after an early release in January 2003.

Mr. Zhang Qifa, male, 38, was an employee of the Forestry Bureau in Jiangyuan County, Baishan City, Jilin Province. He was detained twice because he went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. On March 6, 2002, only 14 days after he was released, he was arrested again and sentenced to one year of forced labor at the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp, where he was tortured. He was released on January 18, 2003. His body was covered with bruises and his skin was hard and black. His body was full of hard swellings and boils, and his legs hurt so much that he couldn't walk. He had difficulty breathing and couldn't speak clearly. He suffered from pain, itching and constipation. He passed away at noon on January 19, 2003, the day after his release.

Mr. Zhang Quanfu, male, 65, Mr. Zhang Qifa’s father, was an employee of the Jiangyuan County Forestry Bureau, Baishan City, Jilin Province. Since December 1999, he had been detained twice because he went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. After he was released in January 2001, local policemen always harassed him at home. On the evening of March 6, 2002, he was arrested again and sent to the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp, where he was detained for one year. During detention, he suffered all kinds of torture and was brutally beaten, even when he was on the verge of death. His body was full of boils; he was skin and bones.
