Overview
When a government does not abide by the law, it will punish its citizens at
will using any excuse. The Falun Gong practitioners are fired from their jobs
and fined repeatedly and heavily. The police constantly break into their homes
and confiscate their personal property without a warrant. When the police can’t
find the practitioner they want, they will harass their families; sometimes
abduct one of his or her family members. The practitioners are denied food
during the detention and forced to walk on the street with other convicts as an
insult. Because they refuse to renounce Falun Gong, they are beaten with wooden
clubs and rubber batons, lashed with bamboo strips, and shocked with electric
batons. Some have cold water poured on them outdoors in winter; some even have
boiling water poured on them. These brutal methods of harassment leave bruises
and scars on the practitioners’ bodies.
Under such circumstances, the Falun Gong practitioners are forced to become
homeless. It is the only way for them to avoid the persecution and harassment by
a regime that observes no law. Here are some cases of the internally displaced
persons in China.
